The Proflex E-gasket is a great way to make gaskets for intermediate dentures. The advantages of this material are that it bonds to acrylic, it is closed celled for longer gasket life, has excellent retention giving a snap-like fit, and can be processed in one day. The Seven easy steps are:

  1. Survey and block out your master model in desired retention areas. A maximum of 3 to 5 degree undercut is recommended if using acrylics. A greater amount of undercut can be utilized if using a Proflex “pass through” denture.

  2. Duplicate your master model.

  3. Vacuum form E-Gasket material over duplicate model. Cover existing teeth with the E-gasket like a coping.

  4. Trim elastomeric material to desired form.

  5. Mount case and set up teeth in the usual manner leaving room for gaskets. Transfer your set up to the duplicate model and wax for finish. Invest and boil out the wax as usual.

  6. Pack base material on both sides of flask with the gaskets on the model and the teeth on the opposite side of mold.

  7. Close flask, cure, recover case and finish as usual. Trim and shape the gaskets at this time. Case is now complete and read for delivery.
